GEICO will NOT be there when you need them.

I'll keep it short: a lady runs a solid red light and flies full speed in front of my truck. My truck was totaled even after slamming on my brakes as hard as I could and trying to swerve out of way even though I have a solid green. There were tons of eye-witnesses. The other driver admits to not even seeing the light as she was preoccupied with mother's recently installed pacemaker. GEICO "insured" other motorist. I try to go through GEICO as I think this should be cut and dried, as did the responding police officer on the scene. The GEICO representative after talking to the other driver tells me to get a rental, that they will pay for.

After 4 days of 'investigation', GEICO claims I am 25% at fault!!! Huh??? They claimed I could have done more to avoid accident. What??? They had 4 business days to mull it over, and I had 1.5 seconds. And I think I made a better decision in 1.5 seconds than they did in 4 days. After I argue with the GEICO claims adjuster for 15 minutes, he changed it to me being only 20% at fault. Huh!!! Liability is now negotiable after a 4-day investigation??? Something seemed very fishy about the whole thing. I hung the phone up, called MY insurance company (a REAL one: USAA).

They took care of 100% of vehicle loss and waived my deductible because other driver was at fault. The check is in the mail now. Now they are going after GEICO. And now the best... after a week, GEICO calls Hertz and says they aren't paying for the rental that THEY TOLD ME TO RENT!!! Unreal. Don't use them if you will actually ever NEED your insurance!

GEICO Makes Marriage Harder

So today Monday May 23, 2011 I called to ask for a Quote with GEICO. Just a quote, I am already covered by them through my husband who is currently deployed but due to our personal issues we are both looking into divorce. He owns a truck that I am taking care of and that I use. Well, since he will be back soon I needed to find my own transportation and I wanted to find out how much my insurance would cost. Well after giving me an estimate the girl on the phone basically tries to bully me into my own policy. Stating it is GEICO's policy that even if a couple is not legally separated they cannot be on the same policy.

I asked if I called back is that the quote I will receive and in a snide way the representative replied back "Well you should just accept this right now. With the information you gave at the beginning of the call you cannot be on your husband's policy." And when I asked "If me and my husband decided not get a divorce...?" She said I could easily be added back on. With everything we are going through this company seriously wants to add a step that might be avoidable?

When I told her I would not accept the quote she continued to transfer me to a North Carolina agent to be taken off the policy. I used to recommend GEICO to everyone I knew but after this I wouldn't recommend their company to anyone.

Policy payment after cancellation!!!
By -

After a quick shop around I found out that Nationwide has much better rates for me than Geico. So I switched. Informed Geico of my decision and cancelled the policy. Guess what, Geico still charged my account after I have canceled my policy with them and when I asked them why, I was told that they did not have enough time to cancel the automatic withdraw!!! And they refund the payment to my checking account within 2 weeks. Can you believe that holding my $399.97 for two weeks?

Well, what are you going to do fight with a Gecko! Two weeks later and still no money. I called Geico and was informed that "a check was mailed to me and it takes 7-10 days to get it". So by the time I get my own money back it would be more than a month!!! I will never recommend them and in any occasion will tell my story. I am a blue collar working class and $400 is half of my mortgage payment and I hate to see Buffet's company holding on to it. May I should say A Good Insurance company is a non-existing insurance company.

Just Because They Advertise A Lot Does Not Mean They Are A Good Company

I had an auto policy with GEICO, no problems until I wanted to remove my 18 year old daughter from my policy. I had put her on the policy but they wouldn't let me take her off even though she had moved out. They wanted another automobile policy with her on it, even though the car is mine and she moved in with her boyfriend at his house who has his own car, with his mother. Or, utility bills which she wouldn't have either. It is all about keeping your money because the policy would go down substantially without her on it. But, when I added her, even though I could have not and it went up they didn't have any problems with that.

Pros: They have a website, competitive pricing. Cons: Bad customer service. Changes to quotes without your knowledge. I cancelled the policy today after they robbed me. Another name for their customer service representative is thief/lair/robbers. I had a single driver auto policy. I called them to inquire about the cost for adding my wife to the policy. The cost was too much to afford. Hence I immediately asked them to take off her name.

The agent complied. So, my understanding was that my wife was not covered. I did not let her drive the car. But I was charged a ridiculous amount for the coverage (that I did not know I had). This is because of the delay involved in them processing my forms. I would NEVER use GEICO again.

GEICO Canceled My Auto Insurance Without Notifying Me.
By -

GEICO canceled my auto insurance without notifying me. I did not find out until I called to make a payment. Now NCDMV saying I owe them $50 civil penalty for my insurance laps, which was caused by GEICO. What can I do? I set up a payment plan with them week earlier because lost my job. They said it was fine with splitting the payment in half. When I called to make one my payment they did not know about the payment arrangement. Said it was too late, my insurance has been canceled. I been with GEICO over 10 years. Some way to treat your loyal customers. I guess they can get away with murder. Walk up and down on the customers and we cannot do anything about it.

Update: North Carolina Department of Insurance has come through. GEICO has to cover the period which I was without coverage since they did not inform me they had canceled my Insurance. So now there will be no laps. Thanks NCDOI!!

Geico's "Non Customer Service"
By -

MINNESOTA -- After getting a DUI last Sept I voluntarily contacted Geico and informed them of my incident. They did NOT cover the accident, and any court costs - all which came out of my pocket in excess of $12k - yet they were "gung-ho" to renew my policy in Nov. Then they contact me 2 mos later to cancel me but are willing to renew me at 4x the original plan rates.

Now for the facts - I've been with Geico for 18+ years, no accidents, no tickets - absolutely clean record. But their so called "customer loyalty" no longer exists, instead they're relying on bait & switch tactics. State of Minnesota is currently investigating them since I'm complaint #**. Hmmm. Think there's a pattern?

Before You Buy

INDIANA -- I had a perfect driving record before I started with GEICO. After the first year I got two quick out of state speeding tickets. GEICO immediately cancelled my policy even though no claim was filed. Since I was now cancelled I was put in a high risk pool. Any money I saved was lost to the next three years of High Risk insurance with Progressive. GEICO only looks for the best and if you have any issues they will cancel. No other company has treated me like this... even after a claim has been filed. Think twice before you get GEICO Insurance.

Cute Gecko but Please Don't Buy the Insurance - You'll Regret It.

COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA -- This is just to warn folks that you get what you pay for (and sometimes even less!). I used to have Geico insurance and thought it was great because it was cheap. That is until I needed to use it. To make a long story short, I had a 6 month old car. I was hit by a hit-and-run driver. I took my car to the "Geico recommended" body shop for repairs. Well I waited for ANOTHER 6 months for my car to be repaired.

For this entire 6 months I had to continue to pay car payments AND insurance premiums. When I got the car back, the repairs were terrible. The frame had actually been welded back together and the body shop worker told me the car should have been totaled but they were instructed to repair it by Geico. When I questioned Geico on it, I have NEVER been treated SO rudely by any group of individuals in my entire life. I was accused of lying by one of the adjusters because he didn't believe I'd been hit by a hit-and-run driver, even though I had several witnesses!

After spending a lot of money for attorneys, I finally was successful in getting the car totaled but was paid less than the car was originally worth before the accident. I'm glad it's over but want to make one final point in closing. I've done some research to find out what happened to the car after it was totaled by Geico. Seems they sold it WITHOUT DISCLOSING THAT IT HAD BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT, WHICH IS ILLEGAL. Now, is it worth saving a few dollars to use this company???

Request Refund

WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA -- IS GEICO CARELESS WITH BILLING? Do their cavemen ads provide clues to systemic problems? Since January 1992, I was a Geico auto insurance customer. My sister, an accountant living in a smaller town, told me twice that Geico was overcharging me by about 200%. I figured that living in a larger city increased my rate. I called Geico three times over the years, reminding them of my Safe Driver Awards from Greyhound and that I carried the minimum liability coverage allowed with never any comprehensive for my vehicle. Geico said their rates were the lowest of any.

I have driven the same ‘89 Ford Taurus wagon that looks new and is always garaged at the same address. When my annual Geico premium reached $840, I took my sister's advice and found equal coverage from The Hartford/AARP at $380 for 12 months. It seems Geico made a primary error by entering my coverage at six months instead of a year. As I seemed willing to keep paying, they increased my cost. I sent Geico a Certified letter with Return Receipt on June 19 requesting 50% refund on all premiums paid since 1992.

No reply came. I am bringing the overcharges before consumer watch groups and also inviting the news media to report it. Email ** to report similar experiences with Geico or if my documentation is required. Geico lost me with their disgusting cavemen ads crowding that lovable chameleon.
