Maytag Dishwasher Nightmare
By -

HOBBS, NEW MEXICO -- This is just a consumer alert to not buy anything Maytag anymore!! I've had Maytag for years with no problems. But Maytag sold their company and the new company doesn't make dependable good appliances anymore... Run don't walk from anything that says Maytag or is made by Maytag. My whole home has Maytag appliances that have been very good but I bought a dishwasher that was sold to me as top of the line. $500 one... It cratered after one year. Racks started falling apart after just 6 months. A repairman came out and just shook his head. The dishwasher was lightly used.... just me and my husband here so maybe 3-4 times a week.

He couldn't believe that it had cratered and said it could be so many different things he didn't know where to start. Basically told us we would be better off buying a new one than paying for repairs. Contacted Maytag and since the warranty had just run out... they won't do anything... except give us 50% off parts for only 30 days. Maytag is no longer Maytag that we all knew and loved. BEWARE and Don't waste your hard earned money on their stuff!!!

Maytag Dishwasher Recall 2007
By -

ORINDA, CALIFORNIA -- We were extremely disappointed with the manner in which the recent Maytag dishwasher recall was handled. Our dishwasher had been operating fine for 2 years until we received the letter stating that we should immediately cease operating the dishwasher due to risk of fire. It took 10 days to receive the part from Maytag. After the part was installed by the Maytag-suggested service company, the dishwasher would not operate. The company came back to fix it and advised us that a second part was needed. The repairman said that the part was needed due to the recall repair. I called Maytag to ask why I was not told that this could happen.

I was told that customers might be "scared off" from repairing their machine if they knew that 2 repairs might be necessary. The repairman returned a week later when I received the second part. He told me that he couldn't fix the washer - I needed a new one. Maytag would only give us $300 toward a new machine - not even close to the cost of replacing.

A week later he returned and thankfully, was able to fix it. In the meantime, I was hand washing dishes for a family of 4 for FOUR weeks. This was totally unacceptable, and all due to a manufacturing defect by Maytag. I feel that I should have been compensated for all of this time (time off work to have repairman fix washer) and effort. Would never purchase another Maytag product again.

Recall Dishwasher Replacement
By -

My dishwasher was a part of the recall. It took 3 service visits -- and 4 weeks without a dishwasher! -- before my new replacement dishwasher (MDB9601) was installed. AND WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT this one is. I've called Maytag twice without satisfaction.

Compared to my old dishwasher, the "new" MDB9601: doesn't clean nearly as well (we now must prewash/scrub everything before loading; practically never even had to pre-rinse before), takes MUCH longer (120 vs. 97 minutes), always stays dripping wet inside after a wash, the ergonomics are dreadful (low stooping to load dishes and load the detergent) and the entire inside is made of much thinner materials (racks, bins, spinning arms, etc.).

To add insult to injury, it's PLAIN ugly!! The buttons on the top of the door don't allow you to see when your load is done and add to the PLAINNESS of the exterior panel. I tried to see if there was ANYTHING we could do to REPLACE this one, Maytag said "no." Well, there is. If anyone is interested in a very-slightly used dishwasher, they'll find it on the street as soon as I can find a NON-Maytag to replace it with!

Maytag Dishwasher Recall

SPRINGFIELD, VIRGINIA -- I'm now starting week six without a working dishwasher. I am using it as a dish drainer, however, after I wash the dishes by hand. I registered for the recall (with difficulty) on February 6, and the repair kit arrived by mail. The (first) repairman came on February 23d: after two hours he gave up saying he broke the control unit. Another unit was ordered and the next repairman came on the 8th. He couldn't fix it either, so a third one came today. He said three more parts were needed and he would get them ordered and return when they had been delivered to me.

So far, the working dishwasher I used to have now doesn't work, I've lost three days from work waiting on these "professionals", and my former admiration for Maytag has been greatly diminished. Has anyone actually had a dishwasher repaired successfully under this program?

Piece of Junk!
By -

FLORIDA -- This dishwasher is terrible. It's two years old and I've had nothing but problems with it after a few months. The biggest problem is that it rinses the dishes with soapy water and then the soap dries on the dishes. I've had "technicians" out here but they say they can't help me because my water is hard. Baloney. I've done every "fix" they have told me to do, run it with only vinegar twice, use a product called Lemi Shine, etc. Still the problem.

Today the technician told me it was the rinse agent, Cascade Crystal Clear, that was causing the soapy rinse water. So I should run the dishwasher enough times to get rid of all of it in the dispenser. We'll see... I hate this dishwasher. I've had dishwashers for decades, so I know what they should do, but these "technicians" talk to me like I've never owned one before and it's my fault!!!

Maytag Lemon Dishwasher

MIDDLETOWN, OHIO -- Purchased a Maytag 300 Quiet Series Dishwasher on May 29, 2005 at Lowe's. It was installed in June. After using it a few times I noticed dried food in the bottom by the door. Called Lowe's and they sent out a tech who told me that the water was not hot enough. Turned hot water heater up to 1500. Still the same. Called Lowe's and this time the tech told me that I should not keep dw detergent under sink. Still the same!

On Nov. 18 I went to Lowe's and had them refund me for the extended warranty I paid for. I called Maytag and they sent out a tech. He told me that maybe the food disposal in the dishwasher was clogged up. Still had food in bottom at end of the cycle. On Dec. 29, 2005, Maytag sent out another tech. He said that there was not anything he could do and I would have to clean the dishwasher out after each use, as I have done ever since it
was new. I have bought Maytag appliances in the past and never had trouble before. But since I have bought this dishwasher, I will never buy another Maytag appliance.

Dishwasher Quiet Series 400

Maytag Quiet Series 400, we purchased it several years ago and it has been falling apart since then. Literally! Each week a clip would break so that the tines that hold the plates and cups could not stand up. There is no insurance against this type of breakage with Maytag. Our only option is to buy a new rack(s) and then have it installed. Cost: $250.00 per rack. We could not even buy the new clips to hold the tines up that are left. I have used twine, twistie, wire, etc. and nothing works for long. Don't buy Maytag. I always thought that it was a great brand. I think that idea is in the past.

OREGON -- Bought a service plan for my dishwasher. Thank goodness I did. I purchased product six years ago. Repairman has been here 7 times, 3 times because wheels on racks broke. Engineering flaw? This will be 8 times. The latch on door keeps breaking - another engineering flaw. So many parts have been replaced, it's not even the same dishwasher I purchased. I purchased your top of the line. Now with the replacement parts that was used, it's not top of the line anymore. It seems you don't make replacement parts for my dishwasher. I always wanted a Maytag, I was so excited when I purchased it. No I am so sorry I did.
