Boston MA- Not Great Experience

MA, MASSACHUSETTS -- Like many, I've had AAA for years. Two years ago I had a car battery replaced in my Lexus SUV. I was comfortable because it came with a warranty and the convenience factor sold me. Less than two years later I went out to start my car on a blistery 2018 New England winter day. Battery was dead. :( Battery was under warranty.

My ETA was under 45 minutes. I had a client meeting with plenty of time but had to re-schedule her. AAA did not have my battery on their truck and their ETA extended to more than two hours later. Additionally, I was informed I would have to bring the car to a local mechanic to address their guarantee. I ended up replacing a less than two yr. old battery at top dollar. Bait and switch so be mindful when you need a battery. They do not honor their warranty unless you jump trough unrealistic hoops. I am strongly considering canceling my membership.

MELBOURNE, FLORIDA -- I took a quick jaunt to the local 7-11 and drop off my dog for training but forgot my wallet. My battery went dead and when I tried to start the car it wouldn't turn over. I quickly felt better because I have AAA. I called and was told without a picture ID it was a no go. I then aside well I have the registration with my name and address and that wasn't good enough either.

I am very disappointed as I have used the service several times in the past and was never asked that question. Do ok they have new security but tell people number one and then have a safe password and some identity question. No, I was left stranded by the road. Thank god for my AAA husband... No worries. He did their job while recuperating from a heart transplant... So disgusted... They could have their crap together with identifying people in distress... my rating of them is a big fat zero.

Sold Me a Used Battery

PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA -- My car would not start one day - so like anyone with AAA I called them and they came out and told me after checking that it was my battery. So I bought one off them. Fast forward 2 years and my car wouldn't start again and this time a hissing noise from the battery. I called AAA... Once again a guy told me it was my battery. I said ok - "I have one of yours that has a 3 year warranty". He pretended to not know how to check the code on the sticker to get the date of battery. Then I told him more like ranted- be "figured it out"... He then tells me the battery is 60 months old.

I asked how if I bought it not even 24 months ago. He told me to call customer service. I did and the woman says they have no record of the sale. I asked what date did I sign up for that policy- she gave it to me. I then asked what did I pay (meaning which policy did I order that day) she said that I got ** policy- and I used same day services... That's where I thought I finally had them- I asked what same day services (because I also had a tow). She put me on hold then came back and said that she does not see anything... asked me if I had the receipt. No I do not have the receipt from 2 years ago where I was stranded. So long story short. They got me and I refuse to buy one of their batteries again. So if you do get one- have the tech check the date on battery that day and keep your receipt.

3 Year Free Replacement Is a Lie!

FRISCO, TEXAS -- I was a AAA card holder and employee for years! And a firm believer because I saw them always do the right thing. However not anymore. I purchased a battery no more than 8 months ago and it failed. Since I have left AAA for no reason of theirs. So I call them to explain what happened and that it's been tested etc. I assumed I'd probably have a small fee or have to take it somewhere. Nope! Even though the warranty verbiage states nothing about leaving AAA while in warranty, they seem lost on what to do with me. They stated I have to take it to one of two auto shops, which is fine, however when I call them neither of them would do it.

So I call again and I'm told they weren't aware. So they give me 4 more locations that also won't do it! Then I call a 3rd time. They tell me the towing company SOS towing in Frisco, TX who installed it will surely let me come out and exchange it. However they refuse to answer the phone! Except AAA GOT ME THROUGH? Anyway the towing co refuses to let me bring it in and want $60 for a service/trip charge!!! The battery costs $100!!! So I ask you is it free replacement??? By the way I had the AAA MEMBERSHIP 10 years and used it twice! Just saying!

ELIZABETHTOWN, KENTUCKY -- Why oh why did I not read reviews. But I purchased a AAA battery because I'm a older lady and have no one else to replace my battery. I purchased on 12/23/2018 a couple days and so far no problems. But I wanted to post this so I can repost again if it fails. If they do not honor the warranty I will take to court etc. But so far so good. But then it's just been a couple days. The Tech was very nice and professional. The time I waited was within 30 min and would been faster but I told them I was in no hurry. I was home and safe. I will add to this review if something goes wrong. Other than that great service etc.

AAA Will NOT Honor It's Warranty on New Car Battery

ROCHESTER, NEW YORK -- I purchased a new car battery from AAA fourteen months ago. Warranty information on back of paid invoice states that the battery comes with a 3 year full replacement warranty. After not starting the car for two weeks, the Battery was dead, and I called AAA for a jump start. It was determined that the battery would not hold a charge, but AAA refuses to replace the battery because the car was not run for two weeks.

There is NOTHING in the warranty stating that the car must be run every day or week. The AAA local service person was very obnoxious and disrespectful. He stated that it was my fault for not running the car for two weeks. Like many, I have left cars at home or at the airport for two weeks and had never had a problem with the car battery, especially a new battery. AAA's warranty on their batteries is fraudulent, and they should be prosecuted for lying to their customers. Please NEVER purchase a car battery from AAA as they provide a lousy product and scam the customer with a promise of a 3 year warranty.

AAA Battery Warranty

PLACERVILLE, CALIFORNIA -- I have a car battery from AAA a year and a half old, which has a 3 year replacement warranty. It died, and would not take a charge. The local AAA franchise said I couldn't just bring the dead battery in and get a replacement battery to install in the car myself, but that they had to drive to my house to replace it themselves, and charge me $85 for their trip because I was no longer a member of AAA.

I pointed out that having to pay almost the cost of a new battery for their unnecessary trip to my house effectively negated the value of the warranty. I tried going to AAA directly, but the best they could tell me was that I had to jump start the car and drive it 50 miles to the nearest AAA-owned facility for a replacement battery, an obviously dangerous trip.

AAA had no other solution to offer, so I had no choice to but to pay the local AAA franchise to drive to my house to replace the battery. When they arrived, they asked me how often I drove the car. I said about once a month. They said unless I drove it every 2 weeks, I was negligent and it was my fault that the battery dies, so no replacement. There is nothing in my warranty paperwork that says I have to run the car every 2 weeks. I think AAA makes up phony rules to try to avoid honoring their battery warranty. The AAA battery warranty is a fraud. Don't fall for their alleged warranty-- it's worthless.

MILLBRAE, CALIFORNIA -- Nicholas was the technicians name. He was very professional and had great bed side manner! Nicholas came out and replaced my battery. I have a 2016 Chrysler 200, the battery cost $200. The battery has been great thus far. O'REILLY auto parts was going to charge me the same plus $10 disposal fee.

Earlier that day Raúl from AAA towed my car and he was very nice and careful while towing that he took care of my car, I rode with him and he even was nice enough to take me to my job after. He also have me his personal mechanics info. I was very cautious because of all the bad reviews, but was very impressed!! Everyone was very professional and very invested in helping me get my car back running. I'm so glad to have AAA.

SYRACUSE, NEW YORK -- Wife left the radio on and the battery died in her Honda Accord. AAA came out and said the battery would not hold a charge but never even tried to charge it or jumpstart the car. Replaced the battery in Oct. 2017 and in March 2018 the battery was dead. Called AAA and they jumped it and said it just needed to be charged. Put a charger on it and two days later the battery was too low to start the car. Jumped it and took it to Advanced Auto where they tested it and said the voltage was low and only showed 419CCA when the battery was rated at 640CCA.

AAA says there is nothing wrong with the battery. Had the car looked at by a mechanic and he says there is no unusual draw on the battery and the sides of the battery are swollen... bad battery. AAA will not honor their warranty. Picked up a battery from NAPA and it seems to be fine, no problems. AAA has some good roadside service but I wouldn't buy anything from them again.

AAA Batteries Are Junk

ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA -- AAA is wonderful for roadside assistance, towing, tire changing, etc. Their batteries, however are junk. Between my Mercury and my wife's Volvo we have gone through 6 batteries in three years. All kinds of excuses are given. Lights left on, not driven enough, not enough highway driving, etc. Finally had enough. Bought a new battery for the Volvo from the dealer. It works like a champ. Our driving habits have not changed and it starts every time, even after sitting idle for a week. AAA is totally non responsive to complaints.

Only two of the six batteries were replaced under warranty. I don't blame the technicians, they are at the mercy of their supervisors. They can only do what the supervisors tell them to do. AAA membership do not fall for this scam. Given the number of identical complaints this is a companywide long term problem and AAA is doing nothing to rectify the situation.
