Wal-Mart - 97-3 or 80-20 Doesn't Matter
Ground Beef - Complaint
YELM, WASHINGTON -- This is the first time I have posted a complaint to this sight, let alone the first time I have visited this sight.
The Wal-Mart here in Yelm has naturally removed local grocers from the area since I have been living here. Like many others, it forces me to shop there unless I drive 30 minutes (which I might start doing). This complaint is about the ground beef that is sold. I have purchased every type of ground beef from this store and no matter which percentage of lean to fat (93%-7%, 80%-20%, etc.) package I buy they all have the same fat consistency.
Last week I bought a package of 93%-7% beef to make tacos. Not only did it turn out terrible, but every piece of meat in my shell had visible fat chunks. It appeared to me as if the fat chunk acted like the nucleus and the actual meat acted like protons. I couldn't finish that dinner and told myself I will never shop at this store again.
No matter how many times I told myself that I always gave in.
Today I purchased a package of 80%-20% beef thinking it might be more natural with a higher fat content and less processing, and of course, I was wrong again. Every bite had fat chunks and hard pieces that probably could have broken or chipped my teeth. I tried some from the other side of the pan and the result was the same.
I'm not quite sure where this meat is coming from, but I am telling you that the percentage of lean to fat is extremely inaccurate.
If they stop funneling money into off-shore subsidiary accounts to max profits, maybe they would have more capital to sell better products. Just a thought.
