Late Fee After Sending Check Many Days In Advance Of Due Date
By -

BELLEVILLE, ILLINOIS -- Back in January, Target's minimum payment due was $10.00. I sent in $50.00- 8 days before the Due Date, through my bank electronic system. Target processed my check two days after the Due Date and charged me a $39.00 late fee. My balance only went down $7.00 after they ate the $50.00 I sent in. I called and they removed the late fee, acting as if they were doing me a favor. (8 days should be plenty of time)

I couldn't understand why ALL other companies could cash the bank checks within 4 days, and they couldn't do it in 8. FAST FORWARD TO MARCH. My due date was March 11th, again, $10.00. On February 27, my bank was notified to send $30.00 to Target, because I didn't want to be caught without adequate time since Target can't process its payments in a timely fashion. This time, the check was sent 12 days before the Due Date. I got a call today, the 16th, saying they had not received it, and I got another $39.00 LATE FEE. I am livid!

I called my bank which got on the phone with Target, (as a 3 way) because they sent the check and I'm out the money, with a hefty late fee and a possible credit black mark. The BANK asked Target to remove the full late fee, which Target refused to do. (because of the January late fee) Even the bank couldn't understand why Target didn't get the payment with a 12 day lead on the Due Date.

I told Target they had just lost a customer, and that I would log a complaint, and they said they will raise my interest rates on this card. I am not asking for special favors, I am asking for FAIRNESS. I am a good customer with a great credit rating, but it is going down the tubes with their slow-poke cashing system. I have never worked with a company who couldn't cash a check within 12 days. I am wondering if they are doing this on purpose in order to get another $39.00 in late fees.

I am on my way to the Target store to pay off this credit card and never step foot in a Target again. They treat their card holders like dirt. $39.00 as a late fee is outrageous- especially since the delay is ON THEIR END. After reading the other complaints on this site about making a final large payment (which are held up to 2 weeks) I will be making a cash payment and keeping the receipt. TARGET WILL NOT GET ANOTHER PENNY OUT OF ME. As much as I hate Walmart, I'll spend my money there, at least they treat me FAIRLY.

Redcard Ripoff Screws My Credit Score For Being A Good Customer
By -

CALIFORNIA -- I have had a Target card for 11 years now. I have dutifully paid double the minimum at least every month acknowledged in my account history by two supervisors. I have also never had a late payment. Two days ago I got a letter saying my credit limit was cut despite this due to me "not having open real estate accounts" on my credit report. Interesting, but when I got the card I was not a homeowner (and I am now) and had way more debt than I do now... so I called to ask them what was up.

The first supervisor was most unhelpful. M. the second was a bit better acknowledging that their systems looks up your FICO but also your record with them. Apparently my perfect records counts for nothing and neither does the fact that I own a home despite their misinformation which they blame on the credit report but the credit report is totally accurate. He acknowledged their system is flawed, but works for most customers. They will not help me at all DID NOT EVEN OFFER ME A COUPON OF ANY KIND EITHER to try to keep me a customer.

I was also told that the CEO could be written but that they had made the decision to do this across the board to many people and would be more than happy to lose customers for company benefit in the long run. Apparently they do not need our business despite them being downgraded to number 2 store behind Walmart. I WAS PUNISHED FOR BEING A GOOD CUSTOMER AND SERVICE WAS AWFUL. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY THERE. PS they are doing this to many people along with and rate increase of 4% across the board at a time when they should be trying to keep customers this is STUPID and sadly legal :(

Target Visa; Beware Its Predatory Practices
By -

PHILLY BURBS, PENNSYLVANIA -- I stupidly accepted a Target Visa to get 20% off a large purchase, and I've been regretting it ever since. I'm the kind of person that pays the entire balance, on-time, at end of each month. A few months back I paid my balance online, as usual. I returned home from a trip and found a letter from Target Nat'l Bank/Target Visa saying my account was "on hold" due to non-payment. I called immediately and was told my online payment was not received. Mind you I keep printed and PDF receipts of all my online payments and purchases.

I offered a receipt, but Target had no interest. After hours of phone calls and speaking to at least eight representatives I thought my account would be corrected. My next bill had a $25 returned payment fee, a $35 late fee and my interest rate had jumped to 28%. So I went back to the phones - and got nowhere. I contacted the Better Business Bureau and filed a complaint. The response from Target Nat'l Bank assured that all would be made right, although never accepted responsibility for the mix-ups.

Next, statement - nothing was corrected. Called and referred to the BBB response - again I was told all would be corrected, in next statement. It came, nothing had been corrected. I canceled the account but refused to pay increased interest or fees. Now some 4 months later I continue to complain, but nothing happens. Target, in effect, holds my credit rating hostage trying to force me to pay for its mistakes.

My next step is to refer the case to my state's Attorney's General Consumer or banking division. No wonder Target's credit card business is a financial mess! Hope JP Morgan knows what they are buying into. Stay away from Target credit cards! You'll be glad you did. I for one will never buy at Target again!

Cancelled Credit Card
By -

60586, ILLINOIS -- I had a Target Red Visa Card for well over 12 Years. I have always paid my bills and never had any problems UNTIL - four months ago when my daughter became very sick and leaving her children. I am now a single grandmother raising two boys 10 & 12 years old. When they came to me in December they came with only the clothes on their backs. Trying to get things together put me behind with paying my bills on time. I called all my credit card companies and everyone worked with me. I am now current and up to date (I really was only 1-2 months behind).

At least I thought everyone was working with me but now I find out that Target and their WONDERFUL customer service has cancelled my credit card with no phone call or letter, no communication whatsoever! I called customer service explained my situation told them when I would have the funds, I was not only making my monhtly payment but I was paying the full amount off which came to over $ 7000.00. They told me, "OK that would be fine." I expressed my concern that I didn't want problems with losing my card, or people calling me everyday. Again I was told that I was a VALUED CUSTOMER and everything was fine.

Well I made my $ 7,263.75 payment when I said I would and then found out my account was closed 10 days earlier. When I call customer service now being 3 days in a roll #1-I can't seem to get a supervisor on the phone to talk to me. #2-I am told that whoever I made those arrangement with well, they should not have told me that things would be OK. #3-No matter how many times I call or no matter who I call my account is closed that will never change.

They claim to have called me to tell me they were closing my account. I told them I never received any calls, then they try telling me they sent letters. I again stated I never received any letters. But here is the kicker.. They still feel I am a VALUED CUSTOMER. I've been with them for over 12 years now. What I need to do is to REAPPLY for a new card and I will get it! I do not want a new card, I want to find out what jerk screwed me around by closing my account along with ruining my credit...

Rude phone call regarding late payment of Target Visa Card
By -

MINNESOTA -- I received a phone call on January 19, 2012 from Target Financial Services regarding a late payment. The female was pushy and rude and did not inform me of payment options. I pay online and had planned to pay the first of next week when I got paid. She was so pushy, talking very fast, that I made a mistake when agreeing to a date for payment. She had an accent and did not treat me with respect. I have a good payment record with Target. I have corrected my payment date online. Your company needs to help your "shark attack" employers with social skills and appropriate tact. I do not plan to use this Visa card again when my account is cleared!

Stay Away From Target Credit Card

The Target Credit card engages in activities that no other credit card I have ever had engaged in. Target will hold your money when you make a payment that they consider "large" (in our case $1,000). Even though Target has the money from your bank, they will hold on to it and deny you available credit for over two weeks. We have never had a returned payment or any other problem with them. We have never had any other card do this. Target has our money, but will not allow us access to use it for over two weeks. They say they do this to everybody. Beware!

Target will sue and take your house if you don't pay them

If you are smart you will NEVER NEVER.... REPEAT NEVER EVER get a Target credit card. They are ruthless if you become late. I was 6 months delinquent after having a five year CREDIT card relationship with them, always paid on time had an excellent credit rating in high 7's I lost my job and fell behind on everything. They only called me for payment for a few months than sent it directly over to an attorney. Who sued and I was never served the papers.

They won a default judgment, than put a lien on my house, than executed the judgment and proceeded to a sheriff's sale. This did all of this with no notification until the sheriff showed up at my door. I had to get an attorney and file bankruptcy in order to try to salvage my house. Unbelievable. There is no equity in the home at all and they still tried to force a sheriff's sale. I can't imagine if there was equity in it..... Good luck...

Closure of Target Visa Card
By -

CALIFORNIA -- I have had a Target Visa card for over ten years. I have never been late with any payments. Recently, Target closed this account. Subsequently, I received a letter from Target National Bank and Target Financial Services stating that the closure of this account was done pursuant to my request. Only problem with this letter was that I never requested closure of my Target Visa account. When I attempted to complain to a senior executive with Target, my phone call was transferred to a guest relations supervisor. This superior told me that since my account has not been used in a while, it was closed due to inactivity.

In response to my request to re-open the closed account, she stated that I should re-apply for a new card. I did not wish to apply for a new card as this would result in a hard credit inquiry which would adversely affect my credit scores. Hence, I requested that they review my credit file under the old account without affecting my scores. I was told that she was unable to honor my request because she could not directly reach the Target Visa department.

Evidently, Target's guest relations members are incapable of reaching other departments. This is the worst customer service experience I have encountered in long while. Executives of Target are equally derelict for allowing this type conduct.

Decreasing credit lines
By -

In the past two years, Target National Bank has decreased my credit line twice and has now raised my interest rate twice without notice. My credit is not the best but is also not the worst and I had been faithful with my payments to them. It turns out that they do random credit checks on you and if you are delinquent in any other credit agreement in any way, (in my case, medical bills) they can do this without notifying you.

I didn't even know that they could do a credit check on you without your permission. It has been so long since I first applied for the card, that I don't remember what it says on this issue. I am very disappointed in the way they have done this and I am trying to pay this card off as soon as possible. I will cancel the account directly.

Target Attempts to "Legally" Steal Money

WHITE PLAINS, NEW YORK -- About 15 years ago I took out a Target card in upstate NY in return for a 10% discount on items totaling less than $25. That day I paid in cash since the card was supposed to be mailed. About 6 months later (after NEVER receiving the card through the mail) I get a call from Target. They had an incorrect address and agreed to send another card which I never received and never used. A week after the call I got a bill in the mail saying I owed almost $4,000 for unpaid merchandise. They claim I left the store without paying which I would never do.

I called and told them there was a mistake because these charges are illegal. They said they would look into it. Every 6 months or so I would get another bill offering a settlement if I paid a few 1,000 dollars. Over the years this amount has been reduced. The last offer (about 2 months ago) was a settlement offer for a few hundred dollars. My only regret is that I didn't save all letters and report it to the proper consumer fraud authorities.

In conclusion, Target perpetuates scams, fraud and illegal unauthorized charges. Although this is well documented (it's posted all over the internet) they continue to get away with illicit activity. It's just a matter of time before they will be fully exposed and completely OUT OF BUSINESS for good. According to a very reliable source this will definitely happen before 2015. BUYER BEWARE when shopping at Target because you do so at your own risk of being scammed!!!
