Red Card - Huge Hassle and Really bad customer service

COON RAPIDS, MINNESOTA -- Finally was guilted into the Red Card since I shop there three to four times a week. From the start, I have had PIN issues... even though I made a simple choice. All you get is the shrug of the shoulders and "call the number on the back of the card." What's worse, is they then declined my bank card.. I look like a stupid loser -- three times. Every time I call, I am "disconnected" until I sit on Zero. When I get an answer - all I can say is ATTITUDE and this person was NOT Minnesota nice. The best was "Your zip code shows Minneapolis - not Coon Rapids - I cannot help you." Great company.

Red Card Accounting Office Cost Me $600

FRIDLEY, MINNESOTA -- Last year I noticed a withdrawal from my checking account by using Target's Red Card. I hadn't been in the store on the day of or day before the withdrawal showed up in my account. I called Target and asked to speak with an individual in accounting. My mistake was not getting the individual's name. But according to this male accounting person, "No, I hadn't made any purchases in that amount, even dating back to the first of the month." So I called my bank and put a stop payment on the amount.

Six weeks later when I went to use my Red Card at Target it was declined. Turns out that banks, unlike checks when a "Stop Payment" is put into effect, they will put the stop payment on the ENTIRE bank debit card. I called Target, asked them why they let six weeks lapse before contacting me, allowing $600 worth of charges pile up. Nope, they don't do that. They were 'nice enough' to drop the fees down to $300. That made me feel OH SO MUCH BETTER - yea right!

So no don't trust Target's RED CARD and their accounting department. AND do read the fine print on any or all of your debit cards.

Very slow to post payments

CUMMING, GEORGIA -- My complaint with the Target Red card is that they are slow to process payments. I use my card weekly and weekly I have the full balance paid to them from my checking account. I noticed the payments were not being posted and I was told by more than one representative that they would hold my payment up to 15 days (3 weeks!) "in case my bank wants the money back". I was invited to bring cash into the store to make my payment or schedule a conference call with my bank (for every payment) so they could make sure the bank didn't want the money back.

I am baffled by this. I pay all my bills online and no one else holds the payment in case the bank wants it back. I have excellent credit, so no problem there. I find this a huge hassle for 2012, it sounds like something from the dark ages. I will take my business elsewhere to avoid this hassle. I felt like they couldn't care less when I talked to them.

Credit Card Prejudice

I earn close to $200K/year and my husband stays home and takes care of the kids. I was shocked, maybe even horrified, that when I called to activate my replacement card (the previous one expired last month) the operator insisted on speaking to my husband before activating the card!!! WTF, you are now cut off, my family won't spend another cent at Target and now I will replace your Visa card with one from a company that knows it's 2011, women work and earn money - good money - and can authorize their own credit card usage. Unbelievable. I am reporting this to everyone I know, and will write review after review on every site I can find online.

Misleading the Customer
By -

Today, I went to shop at Target and saw a big sign with a 5% discount off one's purchases. I did not notice in tiny, tiny writing that it was attached to a Target credit card. I believed that it was similar to a rewards card. Right there and then I tried to cancel the card. I spoke with several employees including the store manager and it could not be done. I had to call the customer service to get it cancelled.

The store makes every effort to discourage customers from canceling. Beware that their finance charge is high. I was never happy with the return system they have but never knew there were so many other people who felt the same way. Wouldn't it be nice for all the customers to stop shopping there for a day or so and then maybe they will show more understanding and appreciation towards their customers, for without our money they would not be in business.

Fee for paying my bill too early
By -

So I've had a target credit card for 6 years. Never been late or missed a payment. I received my bill for Dec and it said $25.00 fee for missed payment. Called the company who has apparently farmed out to India. Spoke to an Indian man in which I could hardly understand. Explained the situation with both my target online bill minimized and my bank statements minimized. He informed me I had missed Nov payment. I explained that when looking at my online banking I hadn't missed a payment and heeee huung up on meee!

Called back, waited on hold again. Got another Indian guy. Explained my situation again. He explained to me that I paid my bill too early so it counted for Oct instead on Nov and told me that he would refund me $12.00. The fee was $25.00. I told him that I would not accept the 12 dollars because the fee was 25 and I was not be penalized for being an excellent customer to which he replied. "I refund you 12 dollars."

Again I explained that I have been a loyal customer and that I should receive a full refund. Finally he tells me he will refund the full $25.00. Why is everyone farming out to foreign countries. Sure lets cut costs by farming out and then charge the chic who has always paid her bill before it is due. I'm gonna need you guys to get it together please and thank you!

Poor credit card policies
By -

SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA -- I am livid about my experience today. I gave my Target card when checking out and told it was denied. I couldn't believe it and tried swiping it again. Again, it was denied. They were unable to tell me the reason and said I had to call the number on the card when I got home. I had used the card last week and it was approved (total of $68.28--which by the way was the full amount I owed Target); my new attempted purchase was $146.27, and had to put it on another card.

When I called Target credit, I was told that since I hadn't used the card for a couple of years they only would allow me a credit limit of $200) and there was nothing they would except earn back my credit limit through my consistently paying back my card. This is interesting because I have a superior credit rating and pay all my cards in full monthly. I can also walk into any store and charge thousands of dollars on credit without any problem. I am canceling my card tomorrow.

The only reason I used it was to get the 5% credit on my bill and haven't been using my Target card in the past few years is that I was putting all my purchases on another singular card because of ease in keeping track of purchases. My beef is not the store's products but their companies' credit card policies. Quite frankly, I'm appalled. In this day and age, this is a ridiculous policy and needs to be revised. I AM MOST CERTAINLY NOT A CREDIT RISK!!!

Target Visa now charges foreign transaction fees for US dollars too
By -

I recently had a transaction that I made through Paypal.com in US dollars. Paypal is a US based organization. Paypal accepts payments in US dollars and charges you when you make the payment to convert to a foreign currency when applicable. Imagine my surprise to receive a 3% foreign transaction fee from my Target VISA card for this same transaction even though the charge was made in US dollars through a US company? And worse, when I called Target Visa customer service, they could not even explain the fee or what it was for properly.

I did at least find online articles through google search that explained that credit card companies are now increasing revenue by charging international transaction fees if there was ANY foreign bank involved even if the transaction was in US dollars. So translated, it doesn't cost them more but in this case cost me TWICE for the same thing - once through Paypal and once through Target. Is it me or does it not seem legal to charge a fee when no service was rendered? I wonder if a class action suit will pop up in the future for "fees" such as this that are pure profit. And if this is legal, then I sure hope someone wakes up and changes the law.

Target Card Problems.
By -

I received a phone call from a bill collector today, regarding my Target Card, stating I'm pass due by close to $500. I never received any letters or phone calls from Target regarding this issue. The bill collector stated that my last payment was made in May of 2008. It is now August of 2010. I paid off this accounting in June of 2008 at the guest service counter. I just find it funny that if they're claiming there was still a balance remaining, why didn't they contact me?

Usually Target would start the phone calls if you're late by a day. They had my address, and my number. Why is it over two years later and many late charges are they contacting me now? I paid with cash in the store, and since it is now over two years later, I have no records of this payment. I do have proof they have my address, from a statement they sent me in 2007 before I went paperless. I'm unemployed now, 500 may not seem like a lot, but it is when you have very little income coming in. Anyone else have any problems with this? Or any suggestions?

Beware of Target Credit Card
By -

BEWARE! Don't get scammed by Target and their credit card. Just was told by my insurance company my credit scored DROPPED 200 points. Found out the Target card I was pressured to apply for to save 10% cost me dearly. Never received the card or a bill so I called Target and paid it on the phone (after begging them to help me because I did not have the acct#). Asked that the account be closed as it was paid in full.

Found out 6 months later Target just closed it with a $11 balance. They did not contact me about this or call me. Now it will take 21 days for them to research. This is the only bad thing on my credit report and it dropped it 200 points for $11 that I do not owe and they say they closed the account. No longer a Target Customer.
