Doing good doesn't pay

I have had a Target credit card for over 10 years. They've never lost a dime on me, and I've paid a few late charges without complaint. I recently paid them off after tiring of their usurious interest rates. They did not credit my account - it went to another account. They promptly charged me a $39 late fee. I suspect it was my original Target store card, which they changed to a Visa years ago.

I have talked to their "Service Center" and emailed. They know the account it went to, but can't seem to refund the payment or credit me the late fee. I'm really tired of calling them and so they Win - and everyone should be aware. All those years of making money off me got me nothing but another last turn of the screw.

Target Credit Cards a Big Rip Off
By -

OHIO -- Oh, I at one time had a Target credit card, now they are suing me and garnishing my low wages for charges I never did make. I would not step foot in a target store. Trust me on this one. I saw the charges on this target card and contacted them. These were not my charges at all. They did indeed close my account, sold the account, and now I have a judgment against me. It cost me over 1,200.00 to hire a attorney. That attorney said, "Just pay the bill you're going to lose the case."

They never did provide me with my signature, what was bought, where it was bought, who bought the items. Trust me people, this is one shoddy company. Target is a big rip off to all the people. Don't ever shop at Target. The amount of fraud was 4100.00. I did the fraud alert, called the police etc. And yes target offers that 13,000.00 line of credit. I have not charged one thing. This happened to me back in 2004, now in 2009 I have a judgment from Target against me. I shall file chapter 7 and they all can go to hell.

Ridiculous Fees

The Target credit card has the most ridiculous fees you have ever heard of. I went to make a payment on my Target credit card on September 22nd, the due date. I didn't have time to stop at the store, and I knew if I mailed it it would be late. So, I decided to call customer service and make a payment over the phone. For this "privilege" they charge $10!! My minimum payment due was $30, so this was a third of my payment and I refused, I just hung up before entering any information.

I went on with my life and realized the next week I had forgotten to go to the store to make that payment. Three days later their people called saying I had missed a payment and now my payment would need to be $110. I asked why, I was only a few days late, no more than 15 days late, and my payment missed was only $30. The representative told me it was $30 for the missed payment, $30 for the payment not due until the 22nd of October, and a $50 finance charge!!

I told them I would make the payment when I get paid, but I'm not paying $110. They will get the payment due on the 22nd, before the 22nd, but they don't need it right now. They can choke on the $50 finance charge, or late payment fee or whatever they want to call it. I told them I would pay this online, but now after reading these reviews I don't trust them and I refuse to put my information in their system, so I will be going to the store to make the $30 payment that was missed with CASH.

Target Red Card
By -

MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA -- I have not received bill from Target credit card company and they charged me late fee and stop my credit card. They pretty much screwed my credit with their mistake. I called and complained regarding late fee and bills, they kept saying none but paying the late fee. They said I have to complain to post office instead of Target company. Up to one month I have not received the bill. I end of paying the late fee, but I did feel really bad. The representatives are impolite too. They were not nice and felt like they did not care about customers. I emailed customer service center but they ignored my e-mail. I don't want to go to Target anymore...

Unaware

Have been a red card holder since 2005, then offered Target Visa with a $1000 line of credit. I was paying along, no issues. Then loss of income for a few months(economy) I paid what I could. Then I made a plan and that was good. We all agreed. Then after a while I was informed afterwards, they stopped my credit. So I called and asked why, as I got an email to contact them. There was about a 5 day time frame. From what I gathered I forgot my payment the previous month, so the credit line was ceased. I made a deal to pay an amount for several months on a certain date. I asked if I could have my credit restored after, was told "No, don't think so."

I guess it's my fault I've lost work hours, for weeks at a time. It has been 2-3 months no income. But apparently Target, like most credit card companies, all in it for the money and care nothing about their customers. I was ill and didn't have my card so called the 800 # and she said "Well I can do a check for you." OK. This was the 3rd which was when it's due. I saw on my bank statement the check was dated the 5th. I explained it was important for this to be shown today(3rd) and no problem. So I am truly upset. I hope this doesn't screw up my deal with them. Why can't customer service do what they're asked. What is so hard?

Target Credit Cards Are a Rip Off
By -

MINNESOTA -- My wife and I vacationed in Florida as we often do in the winter months for 3 months. When we leave we leave our forwarding address in Florida for all our mail to be forwarded and it always has been. This past winter we were getting our mail as usual including our various credit card bills (3). When we returned home in March we received a bill from Target Credit Card (Visa) stating that because we had failed to make our last payment we now owed $32 in penalties and late fee.

I explained that we had received a bill and it apparently had been lost in the mail during the forwarding process by the USPS. They were not moved by my explanation, but eventually offered to lower the charge to $14. As I have never failed to make a payment late in my life and I am 67 years old, I insisted they drop the charge altogether. They refused and I then cancelled my Target Credit Card and will no longer buy from Target although I would like to as it is a Minnesota based company where I live.

They stated they would be notifying the credit bureau. I don't know if this was a veiled threat or what. It seems to me that a corporation as large as Target would be able to control the company (Visa) concerning their customers. Used to be customers.

Rip Off

OKLAHOMA -- Started at 9%, then a few months back they raised the interest to 12%, then down to 11.24% last month. This month up to 13.99%! My credit score is just over 800, I'm never late w/ payments & Target hides behind "It's in the terms & conditions on your statement." I educated them that they are being reported, not just complained about like on here. I cancelled my Visa card, as well as several of my friends in different states. Sure, Target doesn't care because they know they can get away w/ it & we're just a blip on their radar, if even that. OK, done complaining. I don't have to deal w/ them anymore & will NEVER shop there again!

Debt Collection Practices

PENNSYLVANIA -- About time the Government stepped in on these credit card company thieves. I paid off a Target credit card (89.00) and closed the account last year. A month after the payoff they sent me a $39.00 late fee saying the payment came one day late. The due date was on a Sunday and they cashed it on Monday. They continue adding 39 dollar monthly late fees and interest. That payment was mailed in plenty of time for them to receive it by Friday. We think they deliberately held it until Monday because we closed our account.

Although the account has been charged off and my credit blemished, they and their credit collector agencies continue to call. I have over 600 logged calls and 50 mailings attempting to collect this bill. It's no wonder the banks are in trouble. How much time and effort do you spend trying to collect 39.00 bogus debt. As far as we are concerned they will get the money and see us in their store “When Hell freezes over”.

Target Visa Fails To Hit Its Mark
By -

TURNERSVILLE, NEW JERSEY -- I have a Target Visa card. Until yesterday, my credit line was $5500. Since opening the account, my credit line has been increased, as recently as six months ago. Yesterday, my credit line was reduced by $4000 without explanation and without warning. I have never paid late, and my overall credit is good, with no late payments on any account. My balance was about $1400.

Had I known the credit line was going to be reduced, I wouldn't have been as upset, but the day before it happened, I went to a parking garage and entered with my Target Visa. In the time I was in the garage, the limit was reduced, and I was unable to use the card to exit. Luckily I was able to pay another way after contacting someone in the garage, but imagine if that had been my only way of paying.

I called Target and let them know about this occurrence, and they had a "too bad for you" attitude. They couldn't explain why the line was reduced. Keep in mind that Chase Bank underwrites much of Target's Visa Credit Cards. The U.S. taxpayer, thanks to our government's bailout of Chase, is now indirectly subsidizes Target, and this is how we're treated.

Credit Limit Lowered
By -

SANTA ROSA, CALIFORNIA -- Once a Target shopper but no more. I am through. My card is paid off, shredded and on its way to the corporate office. Why, you may ask? My credit limit was lowered more than 1/2. The reason? First I receive a letter that said it was because I do not have enough real estate (Enough???, WTF) AND the age of my accounts (Age? Too new? Too old? Again, WTF?).

When I complained I receive an email stating it was changed due to my spending habits and payment patterns. (I ALWAYS PAID MORE THAN THE MINIMUM AND CHARGED LESS THAN 1/6TH OF MY CREDIT LIMIT!) I wrote another letter to complain and told them that I will never shop at Target again. Now I'm locked out of my online account! Now I'm writing emails to their general email address. I think what they are doing is defamation of character and I will continue to search for ways to stop this from happening. There is NO reason why they did this except their laziness and unwillingness to treat us like people and not numbers.
