YORK, PENNSYLVANIA -- We called the 1-800 number from the local Home Depot to arrange for the install of our new water heater. It was simple and the total $908 was charged to our account. The installer showed up promptly and installed the heater with no issues. But the heater would not ignite. The installer spent almost an hour there troubleshooting the unit, then said that they would have to order a part and it would take 2 days for that part to arrive.
I was furious and called the 1-800 install number. They stated that Home Depot would accept the unit back. But the next day they stated that they could not accept the unit and it was a warranty issue... This IS totally unacceptable. I purchased a BStock water heater for full price. Also was without hot water for 3 days... Unacceptable on all accounts... If you need a water heater installed, call a plumber and deal with them. Home Depot is a waste of time. Terrible customer service and a terrible product sold...
I have installed hundreds of water heaters in my 23 years in business. I have found that the Lowe's and Home Depot water heaters are junk, they have about half the lifespan of a Bradford White or a Smith tank, that and the fact they jerk you around when the tank fails. Save yourself the flooded house and buy a decent tank. They cost about the same, and you get them from a true plumbing supply house that knows what you really need.
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA -- We purchased a Rheem water heater from Home Depot and have spent literally thousands of dollars on this unreliable product. Neither company will stand behind the product and it is definitely not worth the money or the aggravation. The tankless water heater was expensive to install and the 'brain' of the water heater has died after only 1 year!
