Front Load Washer
By -

In 2008, we purchased the Whirlpool duet sport washer. From day 1 it has been very loud and moves all over the floor when it spins. We had it checked several times and they gave us pads to put under it. This did not help. We can't have it on the main floor due to the shaking and loud noise. It is the worse machine I have ever had and will not recommend to anyone. It weighs about 300 lbs so can't just move it back in place. I wish the company would have stood behind their product. We just kept calling the small appliance co. we purchased it from and they sent us to the main company they use for warranties which was of no help.

Whirlpool duet washer

I purchased the Whirlpool duet washer and dryer about 5 years ago. I had to have the dryer repaired a number of times. It kept putting brown marks on my clothes. They finally figured out it was falling apart on the inside and they needed to re-glue it. The washer has left my clothes stinking and not very clean. It has been repaired a number of times also. But now the repair will cost me $600.00. The drum is broke right off.

Whirlpool has a 10 year warranty on the drum but only if it fails to hold water. Well that is not a problem, the water stays in OK. So good it hold stagnant water in it and it makes all your clothes stink. So to the garbage this piece if junk goes and I will find another washer not made by Whirlpool.

Disappointment

TEXAS -- We purchased a Sport Duet Washer/Dryer back in January 2009. Since then I have been utterly disappointed with the washer. It just shake, moves, rattles, and sounds like a jet taking off. Our washer is on the opposite side of the house (@25 feet) and it is like you are in the same room. This cannot be good for the house (which is on blocks) and we have had to have it re-levelled that portion of the house due to the washer.

I have had a serviceman out and he replaced all kinds of kits but still the washer is not any better. The serviceman stated he has lots of complaints of the same nature, people who have wood floors, on blocks, or second floor installations. If this was a problem why were we not cautioned about this. Something should have been brought to our attention.

I have called the company and they don't seem really concerned. I can tell you I would never recommend this washer to anyone. Maybe it has some bugs to be worked out with the front load but I am very disappointed. I would like to hear from the company concerning a recall on this washer. With as many complaints it cannot be good for the company and people do talk about this sort of thing. I would like to see if the company would consider working with me on a switch out of machines for a total loader but I can't talk to anyone on the phone.

Duet Sport Problems
By -

I just was at the dealer, I purchased our Duet Sport set from and was informed my 1 year warranty was up. So far I have had the front seal on the door replaced after a major leak on my wooden floor. Now I have a load of clothes stuck in the washer because the door won't unlock. I have tried every thing to try to reset the computer or brains. The engineers left no means to mechanically open the door.

I paid a lot of money for this new style washer hoping to help my environment by using less water. I still have my twenty-five year old Maytag that never had a single issue with. Maybe simple is better. I also have a Whirlpool gas oven that will sometimes ignite the oven and sometimes not. I have already scrapped out a Whirlpool dishwasher because of all the problems we had with it. Whirlpool, it's a shame you have to now own Maytag and Amana and will ruin the great durability these manufacturers gave their customers.

Whirlpool Duet Washer

We purchased the Whirlpool Duet Washer and Dryer less than two years ago, to date it has leaked out of the bottom of the door, had the seal around the door replaced, replaced the water inlet valve, did not fix the problem. We had it serviced twice in one week for water leaks and machine filling with water when the machine was not on. We are experiencing a squeaking noise which our service tech said was the rear bearing. When doing a load of wash the machine overloads with water.

Our drum in the washer seems to be out of kilter and when we do a load of wash/try to do a load of wash we randomly get an error message and the machine stops then it will start and the new gasket the tech just installed twists as the machine washes. We have had it. Just purchase a new Whirlpool top load. We love Whirlpool top loaders had them for years, but, decided to try the new front loader. Biggest mistake of our life! Run as fast as you can away from this machine!

Whirlpool Duet Washer Design Flaw
By -

N/A, IDAHO -- Washer was purchased 7/22/05 from Lowe's. Fortunately we got an extended service contract. The rubber boot (part no. 26 110 8182119 1) inside the door developed a tear over a metal vent causing a leak. This is the second time in just over a year. First repair 4/14/08. Second time 11/11/09. You can feel the vent pressing on the boot and it is evident that it is causing pressure which results in an eventual tear and leakage. This is a flaw in design or product failure which will result in continuous problems.

Because of the extended protection plan, our cost was only $11.21. The issue is that it has happened twice now and it is evident it will happen again because of the design flaw. We will have to continue replacing this and eventually our warranty will expire. Also, there is is possibility of damage to the floor if we do not catch the problem. Is anyone else having this problem? Whirlpool says that has not been a recall for this problem. There should be!!!

Whirlpool Duet SUCKS
By -

Bought this washing machine on 11-8-05. So it's about 4 yrs old. The front door is off it hinges and the plastic handle broke off last week. I glued it back on with loctite. So far so good with that. I have already had trouble with one of the parts last year. Cost me about 100.00 to repair maybe a little more than that. I do love the fact that it can hold many clothes but there is a little bit of a mild unclean odor that emits from your clothes after washing. I use very good laundry soap like Tide and Downy which seems to help some. I don't like the fact that my socks get caught in that little crevice every time I wash socks and mics. items.

Duet Is At Least An Octet Of Disappointments
By -

I researched washer/dryer combos before deciding on Whirlpool Duet front loader less than 5 years ago. The washer especially received good reviews from consumers and Consumer Reports as I remember. It has had regular to light use doing maybe 5 loads/week. I have replaced the door lock mechanism ($60.00) and it now appears a new computer control board at $150.00 or so will be next. The technician's repair manual from Whirlpool, easily available online, seems to be designed to sell conglomerates of expensive parts rather than to aid in troubleshooting and actually repairing component parts which would be cheap and environmentally friendly.

The quality of the unit is a real disappointment, especially for a price that should have bought years of trouble free use with regular filter cleaning. The Duet washer is a bummer deal for the consumer but a great annuity from parts sales for Whirlpool. Invest in another brand.

Whirlpool, They Just Don't Get It!
By -

After two and a half years our Whirlpool Duet Washer is history. It should have lasted 15-20 years. I contacted Whirlpool and received a lame response that the warranty expired and that I signed a "legal binding contract". I don't gamble in Las Vegas so I certainly didn't gamble on buying an extended warranty. A token gesture such as a discount on a new machine or offering to pay for the replacement parts would have been fine (I would have paid for the labor). Instead I received nothing.

Unhappy consumers will eventually get back. I asked their customer service representative if Whirlpool has learned anything from GM or Chrysler. Viral marketing works both ways. So far we have told all our neighbors, friends and co-workers about Whirlpool's lousy products and service. Whirlpool just doesn't get it!

Whirlpool Duet Washer Does Not Get Clothes Clean!!
By -

DAYTON, OHIO -- In 2006 I built a new home and purchased all new appliances. I was so excited to purchase a Whirlpool Duet Washer and Dryer. Immediately I was extremely disappointed. It DOES NOT GET CLOTHES CLEAN. I wrote Whirlpool and received back an unconcerned, unthoughtful, uncustomer service oriented response. Forgot about trying to wash cleaning rags that you may used to wipe something up or wash a car with. You have to throw those items out. Forget about getting your underwear clean. I have rewashed and rewashed, extended cycles, tried all kinds of settings.

I am so angry, that I have started telling everyone I meet not to buy any Whirlpool products or other brand names they now own like Maytag or Kenmore. I am now out looking for a new washer and dryer and then call someone to take the Duet to the dumpster.
