Lack of integrity

WESTFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS -- Most complaints starts with the results. This one will be about company integrity. Home Depot promises great results and quality while in reality they deliver something substantially less. They will talk to you in the beginning, try to convince you that the error is your fault and failing that just stop communicating. In the end the corporate culture is one that doesn't care about what they do, how it ends up or how to satisfy the need only that they get paid.

The design looked good on paper. When the process started I noticed flaws and differences in what was on paper and reality. As I explained the issues to the designer all that could be said is it will have to be remeasured. It had already been measured twice and I had to show them that that was not the problem. The designers eyes glazed over and she could not follow what problem. In reality the designer is only a data entry clerk who intimated there must be a fluke in the program, the same program that they use corporate wide to "design" kitchens.

The department manager liked his job so he wasn't about to make waves. The store managers comment was since I had initialed the design I accepted the fault. She then went to a company seminar to accept an award for her great work. I was passed on to the regional manager in Massachusetts.

Initially, he came out and looked at the problem and concluded that the solution should be to split the cost for fixing part of the problem. I haven't heard from in 4 months. If you should ever want to use H. D for anything substantial never give them money up front, never pay with a H. D. credit card and be aware that you will be responsible for ever error they make.

TUCSON, ARIZONA -- I remodeled my kitchen using Home Depot. There were several issues along the way but at first nothing unexpected with a remodel. They fixed the first issues, with an attitude, but that was okay. Then a week after they installed a copper sink in my kitchen it began spotting. It is now the ugliest sink you can imagine. Home Depot said too bad, if I want to return it I have to pay their contractor $500. The friendly at first store manager will not return my calls. Buyer beware, if everything goes smoothly HD is fine. The first sign of trouble they will not stand behind their work or the products they sell.

INDEPENDENCE, MISSOURI -- All I can say is please, please, please do not use Home Depot for any remodel. Once they get your money it's over, the contractors they use are jokes. They couldn't measure a 12" ruler. I remodeled my kitchen and left the measuring up to Home Depot. I was told if I measure it wrong it's on me, if they do it it's on them. Well they measured my kitchen 1-12" too short on one wall. After contacting the Independence MO store I was told, "What do you want us to do? The cabinets are done as well as the counter tops. You should have found the mistake earlier".

I trusted Home Depot to measure the room correctly, do the job they were paid to do. I have a $1500 fridge in the corner and can't open the freezer door. I'm disgusted with the way they work and conduct business and will do what I can to stop people from making the same mistake. I'm keeping this short and sweet, I have learned a very valuable lesson in life. If you want it done right do it yourself. DO NOT USE HOME DEPOT FOR ANYTHING!

The Case of the Disappearing Kitchen

WATERTOWN, MASSACHUSETTS -- My husband and I went to Home Depot to purchase a new kitchen. The designer Reba was excellent in helping us develop a design and make our choices. However, from there it was downhill. The company recommended to install the kitchen was incompetent and irresponsible. They did the initial measurements for the kitchen, but then they were unreachable. They never gave us a price for the installation and never followed through with the demolition although we had a deadline. There were other problems with them as well, but they are too numerous to mention.

Suffice it to say, in the end, our tile man did the demolition. The man we dealt with was Frank. As the time for delivery drew near, my husband called him several times. Frank always told him that he would call back the next day, he was on the road, we would hear from him... In the end... nothing. Reba did not return phone calls at that point either. Just before the date of the delivery, I called to confirm the delivery day and time, even though we still had not received any call back with installation estimate. We were about to move into our new apartment (July 16).

When we still had no response from either Frank or Reba, I call the kitchen company (Kraftmaid). They told me that the order had been held. We and never put through. In other words, our check had been received by Home Depot on May 31 and cashed, but the order had never been placed. There was no kitchen. On July 16, we moved into our apartment with no kitchen. Yes, we received our money back. But we would absolutely never recumbent Home Depot for a kitchen remodeling.

Beware of Home Depot
By -

OCEANSIDE, CALIFORNIA -- I had Home Depot do my kitchen remodel because I did not want to deal with the contractors myself. I thought Home Depot would make them toe the line. That was a foolish assumption, since Home Depot virtually ignored all aspects of the project management. I had to coordinate their work myself. I foolishly paid in advance since I trusted Home Depot. However, when they were getting later and later in doing the work (months), they refused to cancel the contract and at one time, even said they could not find any contract with me in their records.

When the work was finally done (about three months after the promised time), it was of inferior quality and I had to constantly monitor the work because Home Depot had not told them exactly what I had paid for. I had to do much of the work myself, such as appliance and hardware installation. The whole process was scandalous, an outright rip-off.

How Do I Get a Manager to Listen or Get Compensated in Some Way?
By -

VALDOSTA, GEORGIA -- We have been remodeling our whole house. We special ordered a granite kitchen counter top, they sent the wrong one. Took a month to get it right. Also special ordered sink counter tops for both bathrooms. They measured wrong and they didn't have holes drilled in right spot. Had to redo. Still waiting on them. Special ordered faucets for Whirlpool tub that we also bought from them. Faucet does NOT fit! They now say I have to order a different tub that is $1,000 more. Don't they measure, before they order to make sure it will fit?!!!

The lady that ordered faucet said, "But that is the one you wanted..." trying to blame me! I don't work there but if I did, I would tell the customer if it would fit before I made them pay for all this special ordering. We also ordered a front full glass leaded double exterior door. When we got it, there was a big dent in it. That was 3 weeks ago. Still waiting..... They have put us 3 months behind! And we are paying all our workers to wait around on Home Depot!!!! We were supposed to be done November 20th. HELP PLEASE! I think we need compensated in some way...

HOBBS, NEW MEXICO -- We are in the middle of remodeling some of the rooms in our home which means buying certain supplies from Home Depot. Although we are a small town, we do have a couple of other supply store. However the Home Depot in Hobbs, NM has a wider choice of merchandise, which is terrific, but you CANNOT get help unless you hunt down someone and then you are treated like you are imposing on them.

We are having a building boom here and I realize getting worker has posed somewhat of a problem but if need be, PAY the workers more or import people, I don't really care. Hobbs just needs HELP in this store. We could go to Lubbock, TX but that is a 2-hour drive!!! So PLEASE help, a training class comes to mind. Thanks.

PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA -- The third party company Home Depot uses in Pittsburgh are worthless. They came in and took out my counter tops sink and cook top. The new counter tops were not measured right and the sink cut out was too big. They have left me for weeks without counters or a cooktop as they try to resolve the situation. Their solution is for me to buy a new sink that fits their hole. I have spent countless hours on the phone and emailing. Never use Home Depot.

NEW YORK -- I'm planning to remodel my kitchen, two contractor estimate the job for about $17-22 thousand. I was considering Home Depot, but after reading the reviews on this site, I don't think so. I shop at Gun Hill Road, Bronx location and my experience with service for smaller job was the worst punishment one can inflict on themselves. I thought with a bigger project and spending more money would be different. Apparently their incompetence, inexperienced, and poor quality in overall service has no boundaries or limitation.

SARNIA, ON -- A letter written to Home Depot with no response as yet other than to tell me the very poor options still stand. Certainly anyone that wants a kitchen renovation will benefit from not falling their promises of commitment to great customer service and product quality.
