Order and Install nightmare
By -

PENSACOLA, FLORIDA -- March 2007. A couple of days after the CEO stated he would improve his stores customer service. We went to Home Depot and ordered a front door and screen door. The associate acted like he was just learning the program to print our quote. He verbally said the door could be delivered in 2 weeks after we paid for it. We paid $25 for the door measure fee. The door was measured 2 days later and the door was ordered on 3/24. After two weeks, I called the associate and he said the door wouldn't be in for 30 days. Okay, not a problem. The door arrived on 4/24. The installer called and said that he wanted to put the door in the next morning 4/25.

I asked my sister to stay at the house and wait for the installer. She waited until 12 noon, at which time it began to rain. The installer called and said that due to the rain, he got backed up, could we reschedule for 4/27 because he had that whole day open wide - no other installations on his book? Sure - 4/27 in the morning. My mother took the day off to stay at my house. At about 12 noon I called the installer to find out where he was. He stated the door (two sidelites) had not been cut. It was in one piece instead of three and that he didn't have an extra helper to help him install the door and that Home Depot had to cut it? Why hadn't they noticed before?

He said they would cut it and install on Saturday. I asked for a specific time because my son had a competition in the morning. Went to the competition, went directly home at 11 and waited until 2 pm. I called the installer. He said that Home Depot should have called me and told me the door was the wrong size. I would need to reorder. Why didn't he call me earlier? After several phone calls, I was able to conclude that Home Depot was not responsible for their choice of installer and that no one cared. I finally asked for my salesman and was greeted to the following, "We were just talking about your door!" Really? Well then why didn't you call me?

Two people missed time from work to wait for the installer. I would at least like a discount. I asked a manager, Joe, for either a waived installation fee at Home Depot's expense or a 10% discount. He said he could grant me neither. I would have to speak with the General Manager who was gone for the weekend. I asked for my money back 1989.07 thinking they would ask for a restocking fee or something but they didn't. I told him I would never use HD again and that I would tell everyone who would listen this horror story.

Window Sales and Installation
By -

WATSONVILLE, CALIFORNIA -- I had the benefit of two other estimates. The salesman comes prepared in retrospect to tell you anything to sell the product. I never saw or met a licensed contractor. I complained that the windows were retrofitted and not the ones I was promised. The manager of the store stated that the windows were not up to code if they were not retrofit style. The city inspector disagreed. I had them come and look as their workers could not speak English. One didn't know how to plug in a cord (one side is bigger). I called the company as soon as they arrived and the windows appeared to be four inches smaller...all around.

They said it was what had to be done to be in code (VIPLEX) owned by Home Depot. This was all untrue...they ran out of installation. I took pictures of the light shining through the windows between the spaces. I called and sent the pictures. They agreed, JOHN at Home Depot and SCOTT (VIPLEX). I asked on many occasions to see a contractor. There apparently isn't one. Seems a bit strange and illegal to me. I paid 3,500 more for this piece of work. I had to do a lot of work to find that everything that was said was not true.

I would not recommend HOME DEPOT for any installations. The salespeople know nothing about installation and will tell you anything to sell the job. The no interest for a year is just another hard sell tactic. Stay away. Use Milgard. I am not done with my complaint. I backed it up with all kinds of professional help. I am telling everyone I know. I used to buy everything for home improvement there. Well I think their customer relations needs adjusting and THEY NEED TO HIRE A CONTRACTOR.

Home Depot - Don't Do It!!
By -

PENNSYLVANIA -- Home Depot is a nightmare! I had 8 windows to be installed -- it took 23 windows and 9 months for them to do this one-day job. I got such a snow job from the salesman -- subs were bad so the installers are trained in-house for 6 months. If the guy has ever had a complaint they must wait a period of time before being hired. They do a criminal background check. Any job problems at all will be corrected and any damages replaced -- even if they destroy the shrubs outside they will replace them! etc. Well, these guys didn't have a clue how to install windows. All he knew was that he had to be done in a day. They weren't insulated. He just left the old capping on outside.

Didn't trim out the inside (took the wood back with him). Left the inside wood framing on those such windows dismantled. The caulking was gooping and dripping on the siding. Even caulked the shutters to the building! Inside, the caulk is peeling from the drywall. They were drafty. Some of the windows even leaked causing drywall/paint damage downstairs! They kept ordering the wrong grid patterns, wrong sizes, dragged the windows in over the pavement scratching the latches. The first crew out gave me attitude as if there was something wrong with me! Until they concluded it was the worst installation they'd ever seen.

Customer service and my project manager were non-existent. Found 343 complaints with the Better Business Bureau (GA) for their Home Services division. We'll see how the lifetime warranty goes, hm. And I must check to make sure they didn't downgrade the quality of windows I eventually got to make up for all the losses along the way. Nothing would surprise me at this point. That commercial -- "we can help" should be banned by the BBB. They are crooks. They don't know what they're doing and couldn't care less about it -- laughing all the way to the bank.

Windows Blinds at Home Depot: What A Nightmare!!!
By -

AUSTIN, TEXAS -- I ordered blinds for my condominium on August 4, 2005. The delivery was delayed because the Home Depot Sales rep did not ask the supplier if they had the blinds I requested in stock. After speaking with the Home Depot Assistant Manager in charge of blinds at the store, she apologized for the mistake and assured me that the blinds
would be rush ordered. She apologized for the inconvenience and said the employees were explained the correct procedures for ordering blinds so the event wouldn't occur again in the future.

Unfortunately the issue still hasn't been fully resolved, 3 MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT THE BLINDS FROM HOME DEPOT. My question is whether it takes longer to build a house or have Home Depot install blinds? Stay tuned because I still don't know the answer to that question.

Unfortunately the supplier did not send all the parts that were supposed to be included in the order so the installer has to come again when the parts arrive. It's hard to believe that almost 3 months after my purchase the blinds haven't been fully installed yet! This is very ironic since I chose Home Depot because of their misleading
ad on their website regarding 48 hour blinds. This has been a nightmare to say the least. The blinds are for my tenant and I wanted them installed before the tenant moved in.

Because of the initial delay the first installation had to be done when my tenant had already moved in. Now my tenant will have to be inconvenienced a second time. This is outrageous and I hope other consumers read this complaint so they won't have to deal with this unacceptable situation. I didn't pay $359.93 for blinds to be installed in 3 MONTHS (IT MAY TAKE LONGER!!!!). I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Hopefully they will take things more seriously at Home Depot after they receive a letter from BBB.

DAVIE, FLORIDA -- My hurricane protection (accordion shutters) and impact windows (two jobs) were ordered from Home Depot April 23 (along with a garage door and front door). I was assured and reassured on at least four occasions the job would be done before or around the first part of hurricane season (June 1). Only after threatening to cancel the job did anyone bother to come out and measure the windows/shutters. This was done on May 16 wherein the contracted measurer said he would put in the job/order that evening or the next day and I would get a call the following week about installation which should take about 3-4 weeks or less.

He further stated everything would be done at the latest by mid June. I received a call around the first part of June and was told a permit was applied for on June 5. Yesterday (June 14) I received a call whereby I was informed the eta for the windows was July 10. JULY 10??? I asked about the hurricane protection and was informed they wouldn't do that until AFTER the windows were installed. A separate job having nothing to do with the shutters... Furthermore I was told as of June 18, no permits had been applied for yet.

THREE MONTHS FOR HURRICANE PROTECTION AND WINDOWS??? It was bad enough it took two months for a front door to be installed but THREE MONTHS. I've called several shutter and window companies and have been told four weeks max. Home depot has intentionally put my property at risk, has intentionally and purposely caused stress and undue hardship.

Home depot knew fully well what the installation time was but weren't truthful only to get the job. I wouldn't hire Home depot to install a kitty litter box. I was going to go to Home Depot for a kitchen remodel, and new carpet and tile. That will be a cold day in hell. So this is a warning... if you want bad **, go to Home Depot for installations, they'll screw you every time.

Door Department never called with information
By -

HYATTSVILLE, MARYLAND -- 1 Star for Hyattsville MD store only. (5 Star for Silver Spring store.) I went to the Hyattsville MD store on December 14 to get a price and order doors for all of the doors on my house after a burglary on December 7 (2011). This man from the Door Department said the computer was down, or so he said. I gave him my telephone number and e-mail to send me a ballpark figure as soon as the computer was running. After a few days, I called and he said (which I do not believe) that he needed my address -- and still (this is December 29) I have not heard from him. On December 27, I went to the Home Depot in Silver Spring MD.

I said that I was tired of being jerked around by the Hyattsville store and I wanted someone who knew what they were doing. Two very professional people (a man, **, and a woman... I think **) came and got the ball rolling. Within 30 minutes, my order was placed and the company called the next day to set up an appointment for measuring (which they just did). The woman, **, called the next day to confirm the appointment and asked if there was anything else I needed. This Home Depot in Silver Spring MD is 5 Star.

When I called Hyattsville MD Home Depot, the woman disagreed that the door man did not know what he was doing. The "manager" -- if he really was the manager -- just kept saying "Yes Ma'am" and then hung up. He never heard a word that I was saying. So, all I can do is warn people against ever stepping foot into the Hyattsville MD store -- head immediately to the Silver Spring MD store where they know how to be professional.

I wasn't kissed

LAKE OZARK, MISSOURI -- I just discovered this site and after reading some of the complaints I thought I should tell of my experience with Home Depot. In June of last year I ordered two screen doors to replace the ones that had fallen apart on my screened in porch. I was told they did not have my size in stock but had some on order and they would be in within 2 weeks and they would call me when they were in. OK, no problem but I went ahead and paid for them. I waited until the last part of July then called to see what was going on. They hadn't been received yet but they were expecting them within the next two weeks.

I waited until sometime in August and called again, this time I was told according to their records I had already picked them up. This was news to me, I argued with the lady but she would not budge. I ended up calling the home office in GA to complain, I spoke with a nice lady there who took care of my problem. The manager of the local store was told to find me some replacement doors a.s.a.p. In the meantime the lady in GA was hot on his heels calling me every other day to report on the progress. I was finally called that the doors were in so I went to look them over, by this time I wasn't trusting anything I was told about their condition.

The funniest part of the whole thing was while I was looking the doors over the lady was on one side of me telling me that I had already picked them up while a man from the warehouse was on the other side telling me that the original order had never been delivered. My thoughts on the subject are that someone came in and wanted doors right then. So he was sold my doors and they thought they would order more doors for me but since by then the season was over the manufacturer had stopped making them.

PALM BAY, FL, FLORIDA -- If you are looking on doing some remodeling in your bath and need to custom shower door: I order a shower frameless door from Home Depot and they used this company Contractors Wardrobe. They send the door without instruction on how to put it together and without the handle. Call ** Tuesday 7/19/11. She said she had to investigate, investigate??? A door that it cost me $1000.00 and she's investigating what? She told my contractor she will call by 8:00 pm and the same with Home Depot. She told the lady “A” at Home Depot she will give her a call by 8:00 pm. Did not call my contractor or lady “A” from HD.

My contractor call them at 9:00 am to find out where was the handle and they told him they couldn't give him any information because ** was not in and she will not be in until 11 - 11:30 am. They also told my contractor I could use the door by sticking my finger in one of the holes for the handle. I was very upset when I learn about this. I just paid $1000.00 for a door that should have a handle so they tell me to put my finger through the hole and use it that way. WHAT!?!? So I thought well maybe I'm overreacting so I tried it and that door is so heavy I almost broke my finger.

So I call to be on hold for 40 minutes to leave a message that to this time and day they have not returned my call. Seriously, do they have children with no education working there? They don't have a clue about customer service; they are not professional and very irresponsible. I felt like I was dealing with someone that has their business at their backyard and employees their family members to save on payroll. At all this I purchase the door with HD so I thought why I making phone call using time I don't have adding stress to my life.

So I got HD to do what they were supposed to do, call them and get me my handle after back and forward with HD lady “C” in management from Tuesday that we realize we didn't had the handle. We could get the handle Friday. I say could because at this point I don't trust any of them and today is Thursday. So I have a beautiful shower that cost me a lot of money and can't use it.

Can anybody say dissatisfied customer… If you need a shower door do your homework, if the store you are buying from is buy from someone else cut the middle person, it didn't do anything for me. I search reviews on the company you are about to use, trust me you will have a lot less stress.

Home Depot: Service with a Sneer
By -

WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA -- I have so far had visits from a number of replacement window suppliers/contractors, but nothing compares to what I had to endure with The Home Depot installer. I have never been a fan of Home Depot, but, because of its proximity to where I live, I am obliged to get most of my home improvement supplies from them. I have never bought big ticket items from them because I find other places (Sears, Best Buy, Walmart) more reasonable and professional.

An HD installer was about the 5th one to come to my house supposedly to measure windows. The moment he walked in the door he told me I should have told the HD arranger that I lived in an historic district (I had done so). He said HD couldn't do my house because they didn't have a wood window line to offer. I asked him to go outside and look at the replacement windows of my neighbors up and down the street and he would see that every completed window replacement job had vinyl or aluminum clad windows. He sneered at me and said he know about working in historic districts.

The previous day, the installer from Lowe's had surveyed the street BEFORE he came to my door and accurately assessed that there would be no permitting problems. I have lived in this house and neighborhood for 30 years, have numerous upgrades, including a major solar panel system installed last year. I am intimately familiar with the historic district requirements.

I then talked to the installer's HD "supervisor" who, rather than simply say "We don't do historic districts," proceeded to lecture me that they were a big corporation, had rules about what jobs they would do, what was required for them to do the job, etc. I informed this pompous ass that the competition for replacement window projects was sufficiently intense that I did not have to put up with Home Depot.

I have never seen a company so arrogant and incompetent. It comes from their size and dominance and they really need to be cut down a few notches. I have since purchased dual flush conversion kits for my home from a website, and will be going to the more distant Lowe's store to choose my replacement windows. I am through with Home Depot.

"6 Months No Payment No Interest" - Not Always
By -

TORONTO -- On October 26, 2009, I ordered a new window (at store # 7073) which cost total of $ 649.95. At that time was a promotion at Home Depot "6 months no payments no interest": it is written on a big sign next to the "customer's service" counter.

However, I had to pay $ 194.98 As a deposit, because "it is under $200". It is understood that purchases under $ 200 are not included in the promotion, but my purchase was $619+tax and it should go under "no payments 6 months". The accounting department said that if I don't pay the $194.98 (Charged on my Home Depot card) will be interest on that $! They suggested to go back to the store. I did, bringing my original contract (#**) but they tried to convince me that the first payment of the window is a deal on its own...

After 6 weeks I asked where is my window. Had to call 3 times and then I went there again. On December 23 my window "was found". A woman called me to tell me that my door will be installed on January 22th, 2010. A door? I ordered a window...3 Months ago! I went to Home Depot and begged them to release me from the window after my nightmare with the floor. I said I don't trust Home Depot anymore. At least tell me who is the supplier and installer, but they would not give me that information.

They sent me back to 1-800-Homedepot. "It is easy to remember" said graham from store # 7073.This is not amusing for me... Obviously, I don't want to lose my money. I work hard for it. What will happen on January 22th? Would it be the window I had ordered being installed? Would it fit in (came to measure twice!) Or it will be another disaster with Home Depot's installations? Waiting in fear.
