I had a Whirlpool electric range installed in my home on 7/25/13. My wife used the large burner on the stove to boil water on 8/8/13 and noticed that the chrome drip pan, under the burner, had discolored because of the heat. I took the drip pan back to the store where I purchased the range from and they kindly gave me a replacement drip pan. We tried it again with the same results.

On 8/14/13, I contacted Whirlpool Customer Service and the person I talked to stated that Whirlpool was aware of this problem and suggested that I get a new set of drip pans for the stove and when I entertain people and want the stove to look nice, replace them with the new ones. I stated to him that I didn't feel that it was responsibility of the store where I bought to replace the pans.

I felt that Whirlpool was aware of the problem and apparently was doing nothing to correct it. I said if that was the only solution, I felt Whirlpool should supply the set of 4 drip pans to me for free. He said that he would have to talk to his supervisor about that. Shorty thereafter he came back on the phone and said Whirlpool would not do that. No more Whirlpool appliance for me.

Difficult To Clean Smooth Top Electric

PENNSYLVANIA -- We purchased a new Whirlpool smooth top electric range recently - don't have model number on hand. Mostly works fine, especially the oven. However, the glass/ceramic top develops stains with each use. We used the recommended glass cleaner over and over and over again but, the stains persist. We contacted customer service, since the oven was under warranty (just 3 months old). They sent a service technician out. The technician could not do anything about it and since it was over 30 days since purchase, the glass top (cosmetic issues) was not covered by the warranty.

We called customer service again and they were extremely rude and extremely unconcerned. They said someone would call back, but no one did. Chasing down someone in customer service who cares, is becoming impossible. On top of this frustration, the service company who sent the technician, on Whirlpool's behalf, sent us a bill for over $100 for the service call. We normally like Whirlpool products, but this oven is a disaster. Advice to others: try another brand.

Whirlpool Customer Service & Products

We purchased a new slide in Electric Range from Whirlpool and within a few days the electric controls did not operate properly. We contacted Whirlpool and after their endless questions and wait time they arranged service. The part was replaced by the service company. Within a few months the same problem, the numbers on the pad did not operate so I could not cook at certain temperatures. I contacted Whirlpool again and again they sent a company out to service the product. This happened 3 times.

After the warranty was over, 12 months, I contacted them again and this time they would not service the product at their cost or send me a replacement part at their cost. Very bad service. The customer service person and supervisor ** was not helpful or pleasant to deal with. This was a very expensive oven and we purchased all of our appliances Whirlpool which I do not recommend any else to do.

Do Not Buy Extended Warranty!

VALENCIA, CALIFORNIA -- The control panel on my Whirlpool gas range stopped working after 15 months. Whirlpool suggested I get a repair +1 extended warranty for $302 and they would fix the problem and give me a one year warranty. It has been 6 weeks and I still do not have a working oven and the warranty company (Assurant) will not refund my money because they say it was used up sending all these repair people out. Today will be the 4th visit and no one can figure out what is wrong with the oven and now I can't even afford a new stove because of the extra money I gave them! Whirlpool has refused to get involved and the warranty company Assurant has been rude and unhelpful.

Whirlpool Microwaves - Avoid at All Cost

BISMARCK, NORTH DAKOTA -- Amended after the previous remarks showed compliment - far from it! After 15 months, our Whirlpool Gold microwave is dead due to a bad magnetron. Whirlpool used to make decent products and now they can't even make good excuses for their substandard products. Corwin (Bismarck, ND) professes in their radio commercials that they sell the best rated products, but it seems to be another lie and will not make any effort to stand behind the product either.

I guess I was crazy to think a new convection microwave would last longer than 15 months of light use of warming oatmeal in the morning or vegetables for dinner. I have only used the convection feature once to see how it works. UGH! I want my 1980's microwave back - it is still going with a new owner.

Resolution Update 05/21/2012:

Whirlpool contacted me after posting here. We are completely satisfied with the response have since received.

Maytag double oven FIRE

GALVESTON, TEXAS -- On February 11, 2012, my Maytag double oven MGR6875ADS, caught on fire, caused by a faulty electrical panel in the back of the oven. (the electric switch that ignites the gas oven) The fire started to shoot out of the upper right hand side of the oven. Luckily the fire alarms went off, and we were able to put out the fire before my entire house went up in flames. The oven was bought in 2006. Back 3 years ago, we had a Maytag repairman come out and switch out the electrical switch, that powers on the gas oven, he replaced the convection fan as well.

3 years later, the unit caught on fire. Looking at the internet, I spotted that there had been a voluntary recall on this product 2 years before I had ever bought the oven, and Maytag/Whirlpool failed to keep from selling the faulty oven. There are numerous stories on the internet that tell you of customers being shocked, burned, and flames breaking out in these ovens... The house damage was just under 10,000, and all that Whirlpool is willing to offer me is $600.00 toward my new oven. So Whirlpool, depreciated my oven 65% over 5 years.

I wanted to send this out to let everyone know, that Whirlpool was not even willing to take care of my insurance deductible, much less replace my appliance that burned up, or give me money to buy a new one to replace the one that burned, due to their negligence, and lack of recalling all ovens. Just an FYI for all future Maytag/Whirlpool double oven buyers, they will sell you an appliance, but they are not willing to take care of their customers, when the appliance almost claims your home and family. Shame on you Whirlpool!

Will Not Last Past Warranty
By -

Purchased a new Whirlpool range one and half years ago. The oven igniter has gone out, with only light use (4-5 times a week). I called and emailed Whirlpool, since I did not buy the extended warranty there is nothing they will do. They do not stand behind their products at all, I only wanted them to send me the part for free. If a brand new stove does not even last two years that is not right. I either got a defect which they denied or that means their products are junk. They are very rude when they talk to you, and all they will talk about is the warranty. Please do not buy any Whirlpool products.

Warranty - Service Is Horrible

Getting Whirlpool, and its servicing partner, A&E Factory Service, to act is beyond ridiculous. You would think that in today's day and age, getting parts delivered within 1-2 days shouldn't be a problem; or, just getting tracking and status information at the very least shouldn't be a problem. But, with both of these companies this is all very difficult. They just don't seem to give a damn. Definitely didn't expect this from a giant like Whirlpool. We have been without a cooktop for over a week, and it could be up to 2 weeks by the time it's all said and done. Will definitely think long and hard before buying another Whirlpool product.

Whirlpool/Ikea Gas Range - STAY AWAY - Poor Warranty Service
By -

BENTON HARBOR, MICHIGAN -- Purchased April 2010, enamel on burner grate is chipping. Called Whirlpool today Feb. 15, 2011 and expected a replacement part under the warranty. They said "no this is cosmetic." So less than a year and I'm supposed to pay $42 to replace a part that should not have chipped. My children are grown and my husband eat out a lot. So this unit has had minimal usage compared to a typical family. So what I'm saying is if you're in the market for good appliances, look for companies who believe in standing behind their products. I will not ever recommend Whirlpool.

Junk
By -

The 1st part of Oct 2010 I brought a smooth top electric range. I chose your brand because I brought the same kind of stove about 6 years ago & have never had any problems with it. Since Oct, I have had to have 2 sensors replace. This morning the stove started to beep and I could not use any button on the control panel. I shut the power off & when I turned it back on it was OK for about five min. and started to beep again with the control panel locked up. I did the procedure two more times with the same results. I cannot get a repair man till Feb 21, so I am afraid to use the oven. Am I going to have this problem all the time?

I talked to a foreman who worked at Webster City, IA and is now working in Mexico, where you moved the plant to. He told me "Good Luck", 'cause they were making junk. This stove was not any cheaper with the labor cost lowered but the quality is junk. I am in need of a new washer and dryer, but it will not be a Whirlpool. Why should I spend my money on a product made in Mexico, instead of the USA, when the money I made, I made here not in Mexico?
