Whirlpool Lemon
By -

In 2004, I purchased a Whirlpool range model SF368LEPW. Just like the person who posted in May of 2005 regarding a Whirlpool range that he purchased in 2004, my range does the exact same thing. My range had to be converted to LP just like this guys. The range is made to be converted from natural to LP gas. I followed Whirlpool's instructions to the letter. The oven of my range creates an odor in the entire house that even burns your eyes while in operation just like his. The top burners require changing of orifices but the oven has an adjustable orifice. I have never been able to adjust the oven flame because I believe this adjustable orifice system is a poor design.

Although Whirlpool has refused to even talk with me regarding their range because it is a gas stove, I talked with an independent appliance repair tech, who told me that the only thing that could possibly be done would be to replace all the parts necessary to operate the oven and maybe that would fix the problem. No telling how much that would cost! I purchased a Whirlpool because it was made in America and believed if there was a problem I would be treated better by an American company than a foreign one. Boy was I wrong! I will never buy another Whirlpool product.

Consistently Poor Products From Whirlpool

I have to warn others. My Whirlpool top-loading washer sheet metal housing began severely rusting within a few years after it was purchased (dropping large rust flakes into wash barrel), and then the water stopped draining altogether (required service call). It was not that old. Now the control panel on my six-year-old Whirlpool gold range is poorly functioning (off button will not work, other buttons intermittently work). Looks like I'll have to call out a repairman, after the holidays, for what appears to be a faulty control panel, which sounds expensive.

In the meantime we have no reliable oven control. Turning the breaker switch off/on will clear the commands, but it's hard on my wife. I believe appliances should last longer with normal use (only three persons in our household) or at least they used to, and I chose Whirlpool as a reputable maker. I will definitely consider any other brand other than Whirlpool in the future - and avoid other brand names if made by the same manufacturer.

Shoddy Finish on Gas Range Top
By -

I bought a black Whirlpool gas range in February and have been using it for less than four months. In that time, under normal use, it has become so shabby that I would take back my previous fifteen year old stove from the dump if it were possible. The first time I used the stove there was a small spill of food on the black porcelain. When I cleaned the kitchen the following morning I discovered that the mark would not wipe off. When I consulted the manual about a suitable cleaning method, I discovered that food spills had to be wiped up immediately - this around a very hot burner - or the porcelain would be permanently stained.

After about a month, I noticed that the metal grill that covers the stove top was turning a nasty, rusty brown. Again, the manual tells me that there is no way to clean it. Constantly lifting out this grill to wipe the porcelain underneath has resulted in fine, white scratches in the black porcelain. A small object was dropped on the oven door handle and resulted in a nasty chip in the "stainless steel" handle. The finish of kitchen stove should be sturdy enough to withstand normal use and not have to be treated like a priceless antique - though the cost of this stove was not much less!

When I complained to Whirlpool, I was told that all my concerns were strictly "cosmetic" and they would do absolutely nothing for me. My old electric stove was cosmetically perfect after 15 years of use. I feel very foolish to have dumped it in exchange for a trendy-looking gas stove that now looks a disgrace to my kitchen after only 4 months.

Estate Range Digital Faceplate Keeps Shorting Out
By -

I purchased this stove that is less reliable than a camp fire, back in July of 2009, however on their records they keep trying to say it was purchased in 2008. DO NOT BE FOOLED, these incorrect dates of purchase are THEIR estimated sales dates for the stores that are to sell the stove by. Just save you receipt. Now for the OTHER problem, six months after buying this stove it shorted out, PURCHASED IN JULY 2009 SHORTED OUT JANUARY 2010. It was fixed, THEN SHORTED OUT AGAIN IN THE SAME PLACE (DIGITAL FACE PLATE) ON MAY 2010.

NOW REMEMBER it shorted out January 2010 but was not fixed until February because the part had to be ordered and sent to my house so nevertheless from February 2010 till May 2010, my stove worked after the repair.. LMAO. So basically I got 3 good months before my range shorted out YET AGAIN in the same location. HMMMMM... I smell something but believe me it is not the stove. Needless to say I am a bit MIFFED over the whole experience. I AM SERIOUSLY LOOKING AT GETTING A NEW STOVE, and this stove is less than a year old. OH! I forgot to mention that this stove was a gift for my mother-in-law. How lovely.

Customer service is abysmal

BENTON HARBOR, MICHIGAN -- My gas range is truly a lemon. While still under warranty, they sent out 5 incompetent repairmen. They were not going to do anything to help until I sent them a copy of the The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (P. L. 93-637) which is a United States federal law (15 U. S.C. ยง 2301 et seq.). Enacted in 1975, it is the federal statute that governs warranties on consumer products.

If the product, or a component part, contains a defect or malfunction, must permit the consumer to select either a refund or replacement without charge, after a reasonable number of repair attempts. I threatened legal action and was finally promised a new range. Don't stop trying until you reach upper level management. Then, if you are very persistent, you might get some satisfaction.

Whirlpool Slide-in Gas Range - Poor Quality
By -

BENTON HARBORI, MICHIGAN -- I purchased a Whirlpool Gold 30" Slide-in Gas Oven and Range in 2004 from Lowe's. I had to have multiple repairs made to the oven/range in 2005-2007. I asked both Lowe's and Whirlpool to replace the oven/range because I felt this particular one was a "lemon". Both Lowe's and Whirlpool declined to replace the product. The oven thermostat fails to work at random, thus, sometimes the oven heats continuously without regard to temperature and my food ends up being scorched on the outside and raw on the inside. The product has been a complete disappointment and it was not cheap ($1,200+).

I would never consider buying a Whirlpool Gold appliance again and would never consider buying any cooking appliance from Lowe's.

Poor Quality and poor customer service

ROCHESTER, NEW YORK -- We purchased a Whirlpool gas range a year and half ago. We will never buy any Whirlpool product again. Within the first 6 months we had 4 repair men come out. Scheduling the repair man was so time consuming. Whirlpool's Customer Service never actually answered the phone--3 times we were on the phone for 20 minutes and still no one answered the phone. Finally we scheduled the repair man online. The oven still smells strongly of gas when we turn it on, and we were told, "Yeah that'll happen."

Now when our oven is preheating the electronic controls start beeping and the F2 code comes up. After about 5 minutes we can finally get the code to cancel out. From the beginning this appliance has been a piece of junk with part after part breaking under normal usage.

Self Cleaning Function Causes Oven To Shut Down
By -

We purchased a KitchenAid Gas Range Model KGSA906P5500 March 2005. During the normal self-cleaning process, the temperature can be sufficient to trip the thermostat fuse Part FSP #8300803. This fuse is a one time use part at a cost of $50, total repair bill $154.75. I have read numerous complaints about this problem, the serviceman told me he had serviced 5 other KitchenAid stoves with the same problem. He advised me to have the new fuse installed with just one screw rather than the standard 2 screws, thus keeping the fuse away from the oven cover.

I spoke with KitchenAid who denied any knowledge of this as a common problem, advised me that repairs are guaranteed for 90 days and that I should try the cleaning process again. I am now left with an oven that has a compromised safety mechanism and a self cleaning feature which may cost another $154.75 if I use it after the 90 day period. I believe this is a serious design flaw and therefore should be remedied by the manufacturer. This appears to be a COMMON PROBLEM with these ovens, however WHIRLPOOL DENY any KNOWLEDGE of a PROBLEM.

Damaged Range Top on 2yr. Old Whirlpool Electric Range
By -

HARRISON HOT SPRINGS, BC. CANADA -- Several months ago we noticed the enamel finish on the range top under the two large burner bowls was being badly eroded away. On further examination we found that the edges of the burner bowls were excessively sharp and were obviously causing the problem.

After futile attempts with Customer Service, we twice attempted to contact the Whirlpool Vice president and General Manager in writing but on the first occasion were passed down to the Complaints Dept. We were advised that this was "normal usage" or it is "only cosmetic" and cannot be repaired! We could have a service rep. visit us for a fee of $69 if we wished!! On the second attempt our letter was completely ignored.

We have not ever had the courtesy of any written reply from Whirlpool Corp. even after requesting two new burner plates with an acceptable edge on them. Has anybody out there had any similar difficulty with (1) Whirlpool Electric Ranges; (2) the Company?

Whirlpool just unlinked w10244191 to 8302319
By -

Just found out today that incorrect replacement part was removed from Whirlpool. Whirlpool incorrectly substituted w10244191 for 8302319 or 8302152. Mainly due to keypad ribbon connector being 16-pin instead of 14-pin. WOW! Now you must send your control board to their partner CGI for repair for 129.99 plus 11.99 shipping. There is no substitute.
