TENNESSEE -- 4 years into a 12 year guarantee for a 50 gallon gas hot water heater, it went bust. Replaced thermocouple and followed restart instructions. Pilot light would not stay lit. Unfortunately one cannot just go purchase a new control box for hot water heaters. Contacted Whirlpool for replacement W/H and were treated like imbeciles that couldn't find a horse in the barn. Consequently we have replaced, at our expense, a new W/H. So much for companies honoring their commitment to their products and customers.

This is my second water heater in 2 yrs. I try to work with the company with no luck and stupid me bought a second one at Lowe's since I have their credit card I pay credit. This one you have to see the gunk comes out of it, also it never stays on. The water were black. I think the government need to look in to this company. They are ripping people off in this bad economy. Please someone help.

Whirlpool Hotwater Heaters Are a Flood Waiting to Happen

I had a 10 year, 50 gallon Whirlpool hot water heater installed on 9/11/2007 by Lowe's. On September 3, 2011 (that's slightly less than 4 years) it busted from corrosion, flooding 3200 square feet of house, destroying hardwood floors, walls, etc. Lowes was no help, told me to call Whirlpool and the manager laughed, "Good luck, they're terrible." I was offered a new hot water heater, no repairs, no install. I'm going to be out over $48,000 for my floors because of Lowe's and Whirlpool. Worst. Product. EVER.

12/25/2010 First unit failed in less than 2 years. Second replacement unit (installed at our cost, unit cost from Whirlpool) is yet to work longer than 2 weeks. Replaced in November, serviced twice. Failed on Christmas Eve and worked less than 24 hours. Anybody know a good lawyer, our plumber won't touch these units...

Whirlpool Water Junk Heater

I bought a Whirlpool water heater model number UG1H5040T3NV 14 months ago from Lowe's in Corona, CA and the pilot light kept shutting off. I called Whirlpool and they sent me a new valve which I installed 4 days later after I received it. It only lasted 10 days, so now Whirlpool is sending a technician to fix the problem. Yeah right! I want to know if there is another class action lawsuit for this model so I can get compensated for all my troubles.

Bought a Whirlpool Energy Smart Residential Electric Water Heater EE2H40RD54 in August 2006. The computer energy smart board burned out a month later. Whirlpool sent me a new one and it worked until 4/2010 when the same thing happened. Again they send me another in three days. The unit saves on power and their warranty has been outstanding but my previous water heater, a Jackson, lasted for 28 years with no problems. The smart board is not something that you can get locally so I don't recommend this unit for long term reliability

Disgust for Whirlpool

I have finally bitten the bullet and had my 5-year-old HWH taken out and replaced. What a lousy piece of junk Whirlpool foisted off on me! I replaced everything but the tank (it didn't have to work too hard because other parts kept on breaking). I almost got to know the phone whacks in India on a first name basis. It got so that I could replace the heater element faster than a soldier could strip and clean his rifle. I will never look beyond the nameplate on any Whirlpool ever again!

It is awful. I'll never buy another Whirlpool appliance. We have changed the thermocouple every year. No, it is not expensive to replace. However, you should not have to replace anything as often as this part. And the service is just as bad.

Don't Buy Electric Hot Water Heater

UNIONTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA -- I initially purchased a Whirlpool 40 gallon electric hot water heater from Lowe's in December 2005. Since that purchase, I had to have it replaced in January 2008 because it wasn't heating the water to the right temperature and it was leaking around the bottom element. Now I have to have it replaced again for the same leak. They fought me about replacing it the first time even though it was under warranty. We'll see if they try to fight it again, especially since I am asking for a full refund of purchase price.
